As the sun was rising this morning, several hundred local cyclists took their bikes to Commissioners Park on the south side of town for a leisurely ride.
Their 62-mile journey through Naperville and other surrounding suburbs wasn’t just for fun. The bikers were joining the Rotary Club of Naperville in raising money for charity.
Every year, the club organizes the “Rotary Ride” as a fundraiser for various organizations. Some of the proceeds from the 2013 ride will go towards autism research and some will benefit Fisher House, a home away from home for loved ones of those receiving medical care at Hines VA Hospital.
Rotary club members and participants agree the camaraderie, the exercise, plus the philanthropy equals a great way to start their day.
This year the ride was dedicated to Carmen DiGiovine, a charter member of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Naperville and avid biker who passed away in 2007 after battling cancer.
