Who who is District Five’s next representative for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage county?
Mary Lou Wehrli – that’s who. The long-time Naperville resident won the position with more than 55% of the votes.
In the March primary, Wehrli beat out two other republicans, including incumbent Carl Schultz, and won tonight’s election over Democratic opponent Dennis Clark.
She gathered at the Judd Kendall VFW with family and friends to watch as the results were coming in. There, she also told me a few of her goals as an elected official.
“To be able to craft policy with my fellow board members and the president that will deal with historic forest and prairie restoration that are going to provide educational and recreational and natural opportunities that this county deserves and so strong contributes to the quality of life,” said Mary Lou Wehrli.
Wehrli also hopes to bring greater transparency to the forest preserve, help the board bring in qualified candidates to fill a new Executive Director role, and make the board more financially accountable.
Mary Lou will be sworn in on December 4th, at which time, she’ll take part in a drawing that will determine whether she has a two-year or four-year term.
