100th Narcan Save

On Thursday, January 28, the 100th life was saved because of Narcan since 2014.

DuPage county sheriff deputies administered the opiate overdose reversal drug to an unresponsive 24-year-old male who appeared to have overdosed on heroin.

“It’s unfortunate that we have had to use it 100 times. The good news though is that by saving someone’s life by using Narcan we give them a second chance at life and hopefully they get into rehabilitation and become a productive citizen once again,” said DuPage County Coroner, Dr. Richard Jorgensen.

DuPage county officers began administering the drug in 2014 as part of the DuPage Narcan Program. That year 32 lives were saved; in 2015, that number went up to 61; and so far this year, seven more have been saved.
