Township Road District Resolution Ahead?

A pending state law could decide the fate of the Naperville Township Road District. House Bill 3676, awaiting Governor J.B. Pritzker’s signature, would allow for the most recent referendum on the township roads to be enforced. That referendum, approved by voters this April, calls for the Naperville Township Road District to be dissolved and absorbed into the township. An earlier referendum from April 2017 called for the township’s road district to be merged with that of Lisle Township. That earlier referendum had yet to be enforced when the second was voted through: and by the provisions of the new law, that means the most recent referendum takes precedence. The township established a task force earlier this week to look into the best way to merge the road district into a separate department within the township government. The passage of the bill would officially allow for the dissolution to take place.

School of Performing Arts Closes:

The School of Performing Arts in Naperville has closed after nearly 30 years of business. An email from executive director Barbara Yokom attributed the closure to unsuccessful financial negotiations with the landlord. The recently opened Paramount School of the Arts has offered free summer camp at their venue for those who had already signed up for a SPA camp: those interested just need to show proof of receipt from SPA.

NJWC Woman of the Year:

Congratulations to Emily Erickson Ory on being named the Naperville Junior Woman’s Club Woman of the Year. The award was presented last night at a banquet held by the club at Mesón Sabika. Emily stood out from an impressive group of finalists thanks to her work with the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce and various other charitable efforts. All proceeds from the event benefitted the NJWC’s Scholarship Fund, which was recently renamed the Michelle LaFrey Fregoso Scholarship Fund. Fregoso was the Director of Communications for District 203 and an active member of the club when she died from breast cancer last year. Her husband and daughters were at the event to show support for the club.

Local Sophomore Selected for All State Softball:

The Illinois High School Softball Coaches Association released the All-State Softball teams this week. The only local selection was Naperville North sophomore Alaina Eyberger, who was named to the third team. The versatile Huskie played shortstop, third base and catcher this season, leading the team by hitting .385 with 7 home runs and 32 RBI.
