St. Baldrick’s | ALICE Training | Warriors Hockey Takes Title

St. Baldrick’s

Over the weekend Naperville Public Safety hosted its 15th annual St. Baldrick’s event in Naperville. The signature head-shaving fundraiser banked over $50,000 for cancer research, with a big contribution coming from an elementary school in Naperville. Highlands Elementary, led by Librarian Tony Kresl, made a big splash with over $20,000 raised. A first-grader at Highlands, Jaxon Kernkamp inspired their participation when he was diagnosed with a Stage 2 Wilm’s tumor in September, though the good news is he is currently in remission. The Public Safety group still needs help to reach their goal of $75,000 and you could help by donating to St. Baldrick’s here.

ALICE Training with APD

The Aurora Police Department is holding two sessions of ALICE Training today at Calvary Church on Route 59. ALICE, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate, is an active shooter response technique designed for schools, houses of worship, businesses and most other situations. It is the APD’s first ALICE training session since the workplace shooting at the Henry Pratt building in Aurora last month. The first session will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and the second session will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Registration is recommended.

Vote for Jaycees Playground Design

Residents can vote for a new design for the Jaycee Playground at Riverwalk Park. The Naperville Park District has provided designs from five playground companies to replace the current setup, which is nearing the end of its lifecycle. The equipment will be replaced this fall and you can rank your favorite designs at the park district’s website.

Warriors Hockey Skates to State Title

The Warriors Hockey Club won the Blackhawk Cup over rival Glenbard in thrilling fashion over the weekend. After Glenbard erased a 3-1 deficit late in the third period, the Warriors scored the game winner when Nolan Cummings tipped in a shot from Zach Pearce in double overtime. Pearce was the MVP thanks to his four assists in the game as the Warriors brought home the second combined division championship in program history. You can see the highlight or the full broadcast of the game on the Naperville Sports Weekly page of our website.
