Shaun’s Walk for Victims of Violent Crimes:
The father of a Naperville teacher fatally stabbed in 2012 is honoring the memory of his son with a 40-mile walk. Bruce Wild will be leading the trek from Northern Illinois University to North Central College starting on May 17, to raise awareness of violent crime and its effect on families. The two campuses both played a part in his son Shaun’s college education. Shaun died after being stabbed in a downtown Naperville bar on February 4, 2012. His killer, Daniel Olaska, was sentenced to 43 years in prison. Wild’s family has set up a GoFundMe page for the National Compassion Fund, to raise money for victims of violent crime in conjunction with the walk.
At Tuesday’s Naperville City Council meeting, the group approved the final plat for the Wagner Farms development. The project was initially approved in February, zoning the neighborhoods as R2 residential and including a new location for The Compass Church. Council also approved ordinances that will allow Naperville Elderly Homes to qualify for funding from the Illinois Housing Development Authority. That project has been underway since 2017 and will provide more affordable housing options for seniors and those living with disabilities.
