New Details in Buffalo Wild Wings Incident | Recorder’s Office Referendum | Santa House Goes Up

New Details in Buffalo Wild Wings Incident:

A police report obtained by the Daily Herald gives new details about what happened during the October 26 incident at Buffalo Wild Wings in Naperville. On that night a multiracial party of 18 said they were asked by staff to move tables, as a regular who was racist did not want to sit by black people. In the report employees told detectives they had known of the regular customer making racist comments in the past. That customer admitted to police that he had done so before in front of staff, but says he did not make any such comments that night, and did not ask that the party of 18 be moved. One employee account said it was all “he said she said and a lot of miscommunication – our staff causing most of the drama.” The police determined no crimes were committed in the incident.

Recorder’s Office Referendum:

DuPage County voters will determine whether the recorder’s office should be merged with the county clerk’s. The DuPage County Board voted 11-7 on Tuesday to put a referendum asking just that on the November 2020 ballot, and to commission a study on the issue. If the public votes it through, the two offices will be consolidated in 2022.

Cyberparenting Seminar:

Last night over 20 community members gathered at Naperville City Hall for some tips on how to keep kids safe while they’re online. Kane County Sheriff’s Office detective Rich Wistocki presented the Cyberparenting 101 program, hosted by KidsMatter. Wistocki gave tips to parents on warning signs that their kids could be in harm’s way. He said one of the best ways to avoid online dangers is to set restrictions on your kids electronic devices.

Santa House Going Up:

At the Naperville Riverwalk, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. The Naperville Park District started construction on the Santa House early this morning, hammering and drilling to get things ready for the man in red. This is the 18th year the park district has set up the magical house. New this year will be the view, as Naper Lights will now shine across the river in the Water Street district. Santa will start taking visitors on November 30. You can check out the park district’s website for hours and special event nights.
