The Naperville Park District successfully completed its #PacketsUp challenge, earning a $10,000 donation from the American Cleaning Institute. The challenge encouraged Naperville residents to post a photo of laundry packets safely stored out of the range of children. The donation will go towards the park district’s planned 95th Street Community Plaza. One lucky poster also received a free washer and dryer from the ACI.
DuPage Foundation Grants
The DuPage Foundation awarded a record amount of grant money to 30 non-profits in DuPage County. Nearly $270,000 was awarded to organizations working for arts and culture, education, the environment, and animal welfare – a new focus this year. Both A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter and the Naperville Area Humane Society received grants for their animal welfare work.
Santa made a special visit to the Mullen home this weekend to say hello to Holden, a one-year-old boy who was diagnosed with AT/RT, an aggressive type of brain cancer. The event raised money through donations, pictures with Santa, and selling hot cocoa and all of the proceeds were donated to children affected by cancer.
NCC Football Awards
The final and most prestigious round of Division III football awards were released over the weekend. Three North Central College players were named among the nation’s top players. Freshman kicker Derek Judka was named a First Team All-American by the Associated Press and D3football.com. Sophomore guard Sharmore Clarke was named to the third team by D3football and first team by the Associated Press. And junior quarterback Broc Rutter was named to the third team by D3football and second team by the AP.
