House Fire in Naperville

A family was displaced from their home after a fire broke out last night. The Naperville Fire Department responded to the scene around 8:20 p.m. to finding smoke coming from the basement of the two-story multi-family residence located on the 1100 block of Tennyson Lane. No one was injured in the incident, although paramedics did evaluate one resident on the scene who needed no further medical attention. More than two-dozen firefighters were on hand to extinguish the flames and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

District 204 Economic Development

The District 204 Board of Education discussed the impact of economic development incentives at their meeting last night. Tax abatements and TIF Districts are two tools that municipalities can use to encourage development, but they reduce the amount of income school districts and other government bodies would otherwise receive from the new properties through taxes and fees. This discussion follows the release of the City of Aurora’s draft for the new Route 59 Concept, which proposes redevelopment along the west side of the Route 59 Corridor from Montgomery Road to the train station. Aurora has included District 204 in discussions on the project because of its impact on the schools enrollment. The district’s legal firm recommended retaining a consultant specializing in this field.

Pet Night at Santa House

It’s not just kids that get to meet Saint Nick at Santa House. Last night some furry friends got to meet the man himself for Pet Night. Plenty of dogs and even a guinea pig got to tell Santa what’s on their Christmas list this year. Pets were also able to sample some treats and other pet products inside Santa House.
