Route 59 Corridor Plan

Last night, the City of Aurora held an open house about their draft Route 59 Corridor Concept at Cavalry Church, where members of the public could come in, see some of the proposals, and give their feedback to Aurora city staff. The proposal covers a large area west of Route 59 from Montgomery Road to the train station, and includes a plan to revitalize the Fox Valley Mall as a mixed-use destination, with new residences and entertainment, and better pedestrian access and aesthetics. The City of Aurora will continue to refine the plan before approving it sometime next year.

NCC Grant

North Central College received its largest private grant in the institution’s history. The $3.2 million grant comes from the Kern Family Foundation and will help support the college’s educational program, specifically in developing teachers and principals who foster “cultures of character” in their schools. Another part of the grant will focus on creating more diversity in administrative positions.

#DanceOn Day of Instruction

In October, we brought you the story of #DanceOn – a movement that started in Naperville to support male dancers. This Sunday, the creators of the movement are hosting a full day of dance classes featuring guest instructors at Midwest Edge Dance Academy. Instructors will include Yossi Chaikin, dance captain of Hamilton Chicago; Keenan Cooks, who has choreographed for J Lo, Cardi B, and Ne-Yo; Joshua Blake Carter, director of the Giordano Dance Chicago company; and many more. About 300 dancers have signed up and registration is still open. #DanceOn has raised over $25,000 to support male dance initiatives and you can learn more about this event and the movement at

Girls Gymnastics Begins

The final high school winter sport to begin is finally underway as girls gymnastics leaped into competition last night. Neuqua Valley hosted the Metea Valley/Waubonsie Valley Co-Op in a competitive meet. The host Wildcats came away with a 132-127 win behind Jane Riehs winning the All-Around. Another crosstown meet had Naperville Central hosting Naperville North. It was just as competitive as the other meet as the Huskies left with a 127-120 win. Sophomore Kelsey Sumpter won the All-Around for North.
