5th Avenue Questions Remain:

The 5th Avenue Redevelopment plan still remains in Phase I after the most recent Naperville City Council meeting. Council heard from city advocate SB Friedman at the meeting, who recommended a transition to Phase II, but most council members said they still had too many questions. Commuter parking spots and the location for the DuPage Children’s Museum are two issues council would like addressed before moving forward. City Manager Doug Krieger said though the 60-day deadline to make a decision on the museum passed last month, the committee would need until January to decide the future of the DCM. Another issue that came up was whether to sell or lease the land to Ryan Companies. Members of the public asked council not to sell the publicly owned land and many council members agreed, though they’ll look to SB Friedman for direction on that topic.

Wagner Farms Site Development:

And at tonight’s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, a new development for the land on the former Wagner Farms site is being proposed by Pulte Homes. The company is asking the commission to recommend rezoning the property and eventually annexing it into the city to allow for a 312 single-family home development and a new Compass Evangelical Free Church. The 105-acre site sits at Route 59 and 103rd Street and is currently zoned for agricultural use.

4 Gifts 4 The Holidays:

Some neighboring downtown Naperville shops are making Christmas shopping easier this year while doing good with their “4 Gifts 4 the Holidays” campaign. Anderson’s Bookshop, Anderson’s Toyshop, Gotskind’s Shoes & Clothing and Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria are partnering to ensure you can buy something you want, something you need, something to wear, and something to read. If you buy something at all four stops, and collect a signature on a special card – turn it into Anderson’s Bookshop by Christmas Eve, and a portion of the sales will be contributed to Loaves & Fishes Community Services.

NCC Player Accolades:

The Division III All Region football teams were released yesterday and North Central College was well represented in the North region. Senior linebacker DJ Warkenthien and sophomore wide receiver Andrew Kamienski were second team selections. Sophomore guard Sharmore Clark, sophomore defensive tackle Tommy Hyland, freshman kicker Derek Judkak and junior quarterback Broc Rutter were named to the All Region first team. Broc Rutter was also named the North Region offensive player of the year. The Cardinals finished the season as the CCIW champions with a record of 10 and 2.
