Debate season has begun and last night the League of Women Voters of Naperville hosted an evening of three debates at Old Main on North Central College’s campus. Running for DuPage County Sheriff is Democrat Gregory Whalen, who led a forum-based Q and A on his own, after his Republican opponent James Mendrick couldn’t attend due to a family emergency. Then it was the County Clerk candidates turn as Democrat Jean Kaczmarek (Kaz-MEER-ick) and incumbent Republican Paul Hinds took the podium. The last debate of the evening was between the four women running for a seat on the DuPage County Board in District 5. Republican incumbent Janice Anderson, Republican Patty Gustin, Democrat Dawn DeSart, and Democrat Sadia (Saw-dia) Covert (Co-vert) finished up the evening’s discussions. The general election will be held on November 6.

Football Re-conferencing

After a unanimous vote, it was announced yesterday that the East Suburban Catholic Conference, which features Benet Academy, and the Chicago Catholic League will merge for football in 2019. The new 24-team football mega-conference is expected to have six divisions of four teams. Each team would play three conference games, four crossover games and two non-conference games starting next season. Though the merger only applies to football, it is possible more sports in ESCC and CCL could be merged in future years.
