Fifth Avenue Consultant

The City of Naperville has put out a request for a consultant company on the Fifth Avenue project, who would help advise the city throughout the design proposal process. This comes as Ryan Companies prepares to release its first draft of designs for Fifth Avenue on Monday. The consultant would help with financial and legal services needed for the drafting process between the city and the project developer. However, the consultant wouldn’t be hired until the second round of design proposals are finished in the fall. In the meantime, city staff and Fifth Avenue committees will continue to meet and discuss this first round of designs coming in on Monday. Their next meeting about those designs will be held next week on August 22.

Old Naperville Day

Old Naperville Day is back this weekend! Hosted by The Lantern, the annual block party takes over Chicago Avenue between Washington and Main streets and celebrates what makes Naperville one of the best communities in the country. The free event will have local food vendors, ice-cold beer, music, and family fun. And it’s all for the benefit of Operation Support Our Troops-America. Check it out for free this Sunday, from noon to 6 p.m.

Aretha Franklin Tribute

A touching tribute to legendary singer Aretha Franklin will be performed this weekend in Naperville. On Saturday folks can join Naperville City Carilloneur Tim Sleep who will ring the bells in a special tribute at 7 p.m. Franklin died yesterday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 76 years old. Moser Tower & the Millennium Carillon will be lit purple to bring awareness to pancreatic cancer this November.

Monson to National Team

Congratulations go out to Naperville resident and Benet Academy junior Hattie Monson, who was invited to the USA Volleyball Girls National Youth team tryouts in Colorado Springs. After the tryouts, Monson was named to the official 12-player roster. Monson and Team USA will travel to Honduras next weekend to compete in the North, Central and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation Championships. The championships run from August 25 through September 2, before the Redwing libero rejoins her team for the fall season.
