Holiday Traffic Enforcement:
The Naperville Police Department is reminding those gearing up to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday to “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” and to “Click it or Ticket.” Patrols will be keeping an eye out for impaired drivers, or those driving without seatbelts during an Independence Day traffic enforcement campaign that will run through July 8. If you plan to drink, make sure to choose a designated driver, or take mass transit, a taxi or ride sharing service. And if you are the driver, make sure everyone in the car buckles up.
Roadside Safety Check Results:
On that same note, the police department has released the results from a roadside safety check conducted on June 28. They issued 59 seat belt citations, and made six impaired driving arrests. Two additional arrests and eight citations were given for other infringements. This was part of the increased enforcement around Independence Day, which is being done by more than 160 state and local law enforcement agencies.
The search is on again for that elusive Waldo! Throughout the month of July, you can hunt for the red-and-white striped star of the popular “Where’s Waldo” books in 29 independent businesses around Naperville. But first, stop by Anderson’s Bookshop to pick up a passport to track your progress. Find him 12 times before July 31 and you can enter a drawing for prizes, which will take place August 2. It’s all part of the national campaign, “Where’s Waldo? on Main Street, USA,” run by Candlewick Press and the American Booksellers Association.
Benet Grad Gets $10 Million Suns Contract:
After spending his first four seasons in the NBA with the Charlotte Hornets, former Benet Academy basketball star and top 10 NBA draft pick, Frank Kaminsky, has found a new home. The 2011 Benet grad agreed to a two year, $10 million contract with the Phoenix Suns yesterday afternoon. Kaminsky rose to national prominence in 2015, unanimously winning the National College Basketball Player of the Year Award, while leading the Wisconsin Badgers to the NCAA Championship game. The Redwing great has averaged 9.8 points, 4 rebounds and 35% three point shooting during his NBA career.
