HPC Says Mansion Should Stay

At last night’s Historic Preservation Commission meeting commissioners voted to approve demolition of some buildings on Little Friends’ campus. The gym, administration, and Krejci buildings can now be knocked down if the nonprofit chooses to. But the one building that can’t be flattened is the Kroehler mansion. Commissioners unanimously agreed that its architectural & historical significance outweighed the costs of occupancy. Little Friends said they will make a formal appeal to city council so they can demolish their entire campus, despite the Historic Preservation Commission recommendation.

CAPS Fire Department Awards

Fire department staff who demonstrated excellence in the past year received special recognition at the annual Citizens Appreciate Public Safety Awards last night. Firefighter/Paramedics Kirk Diaz and Tammey Morris received the Medal of Valor for their role during the Henry Pratt shooting in February of this year. The George Winckler Award was presented to Steven DeYoung for orchestrating the fire department’s Sleep in Heavenly Peace initiative. All the CAPS awards for both Naperville police and fire department staff are based on nominations from the public.

Howl-o-Ween Pet Parade

Last night the streets of Downtown Naperville were filled with furry friends for Two Bostons’ annual Howl-o-Ween Pet Parade. Wonder Woman, Woody, Thing 1, and Thing 2 were just some of the many of tail-waggers trick-or-treating through town. And new this year were three spooky selfie stations to pose for. Safe to say, everyone enjoyed a doggone good time.
