Distinguished Service Awards | Traffic Safety | Greene Valley Overlook

Distinguished Service Awards

Last night the Naperville Jaycees honored individuals, businesses, and organizations at its 41st annual Distinguished Service Awards. Eight honorees were recognized at the event at Meson Sabika, including Healthcare Professional to Dr. Aaron Weiner from Linden Oaks Behavioral Health, and Community Leader to Dennise Vaughn from Homewatch CareGivers. And the Chuck Bueche Lifetime Achievement Award went to Patti Boheme from Little Friends.

Traffic Safety

This month’s A Safer Naper topic is traffic safety and sharing the road. The initiative comes shortly after a statewide promotion of “Scott’s Law”, also known as the “move over law.” By the beginning of April, 16 officers had been hit while conducting traffic stops on the side of the road in 2019. But the Naperville Police Department isn’t just reminding drivers to be more careful. When riding a bicycle in the street, you must follow all the rules of the road that a car would, including signaling turns with your arms. And if you’re walking, pedestrians should stay attentive when entering a crosswalk.

Turtle Watch

It’s turtle time! The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is reminding motorists to keep an eye out and slow down, for turtles. Now through October, turtles are expected to be crossing roads more often, in search of water, food, mates, or spots for their nests. Be sure to be extra alert if you are traveling near lakes, ponds, or marshes where they’re more likely to be around.

Greene Valley Overlook

Also with the forest preserve – get a great view at the Greene Valley overlook this weekend. The scenic spot provides a birds-eye view of DuPage County and a chance to see the Chicago skyline from 190 feet about ground level. You can check out the spot starting tomorrow when it opens for the season. And on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. weather permitting, the overlook will be open through October 27.
