Decision for Christkindlmarket Funds
The Special Events and Culture Amenities, or SECA, Commission held an eventful meeting last night, voting for several recommendations to Naperville City Council. One of which included recommending treating a leftover $55,000 intended for Christkindlmarket as underspend, which will roll over into the 2021 SECA grant budget. $15,000 of Christkindlmarket’s funding was already spent on the WGN Block Party on July 12. All of those funds were originally allocated to Christkindlmarket before the Naperville Heritage Society announced in April that the holiday festival wouldn’t be returning to Naper Settlement this year.
Cultural Amenities Events Split
The SECA Commission is also subdividing cultural amenities events into four categories this year. Performing arts will receive 40%, visual arts 15%, new initiatives 10%, and capital projects will receive 5%. The commission finalized its recommended funding allocations for those subcategories. The remaining 30% will be a bonus fund for projects that meet the annual theme. After workshopping several ideas, the commission voted last night to recommend a theme of “Come Together.” Organizations applying for SECA funding for 2020 must attend a mandatory meeting this afternoon or tomorrow evening.
