Armed Robbery

The Naperville Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred yesterday afternoon near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Whispering Hills Drive. Police described the offenders as two black males, suspect one standing 5 foot 9 to 5 foot 11 and suspect two between 6 foot 1 and 6 foot 3. They approached a silver Jeep and displayed a small handgun before taking an undisclosed amount of money from the passengers. The suspects were last seen running westbound. NPD determined the incident was not random and there is no threat to the public. If you have any information regarding these crimes, please contact the police department at 630-420-6666.

Gun Safety Town Hall

Newly formed group, Our Safety, hosted a Gun Safety Town Hall at the 95th Street Library over the weekend. The aim of the meeting was to let the public know how gun violence, like those that occurred in El Paso and Dayton over the weekend and the Aurora shooting in February, can be prevented. Attendees voiced their concerns and asked the panelists questions on the topic. On the panel were Representative Lauren Underwood, State Senator Laura Ellman, State Representative Stephanie Kifowit, Naperville City Councilman Kevin Coyne, Will County Board Member Mimi Cowan, and Naperville Police Commander Bob Lee.

Festa Italiana

It was a weekend full of all things Italian at Festa Italiana, hosted by StarEvents. The event was held at Naper Settlement, the first year the company brought their festival to Naperville. Attendees enjoyed the food, shopping, and music on show. And if that entertainment wasn’t enough, festival-goers had the chance to be captivated by the Zoppé Circus, an Italian family circus that has been showcasing their talent for 176 years.

U.S. National Swimming

It’s been an exciting couple of weeks for Naperville area swimmers competing amongst the best in the country at U.S Nationals. Neuqua Valley junior Connor Boyle qualified for the 2020 Olympic trials in the men’s 50 meter freestyle. Qualifying for the women’s 50 meter freestyle was Metea Valley junior McKenna Stone. Neuqua Valley junior and defending state champion in the 500 free Rachel Stege qualified in both the women’s 400 and 800 meter freestyle. Stege also finished 12th overall at the U.S. Nationals in the 400 free with a time of 4:10.
