A Safer Naper | Puppy Mill Workshop | Softball Championships

A Safer Naper

With the beginning of July it’s the start of a new A Safer Naper. The Naperville Police Department campaign is reminding residents about personal safety this month. Their biggest tips – be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places like Ribfest. Remember to have a plan and meeting location in case a family member gets lost, dress in bright colors that get noticed, and trust your gut – actively keep yourself in the right mindset. More tips for personal safety can be found on the police department website.

DuPage Puppy Mill Workshop

DuPage County Animal Services partnered up with the Humane Society of the United States to host its first Puppy Mill Workshop. Around 100 attendees came to the DuPage County Administration building to listen to 17 speakers talk about topics relating to puppy mills, including current legislation, the issues behind them, and what the public can do to help. One of the 2019 DuPage County legislative priorities is banning the sale of commercially bred pets.

Queen of Hearts Raffle

No one has found the Queen of Hearts yet in the Queen of Hearts Raffle hosted by Saints Peter & Paul School. The raffle is a fundraiser for the school with a current jackpot of over $22,000. Half of that goes to the raffle winner. Drawings are held each Saturday at Quigley’s and ticket info is on the school’s website. The raffle will only continue until August 10 or until they find the elusive queen.

Softball Championships

Two of the Naperville Sliderz Park District softball championship games were held over the weekend. In the third and fourth grade division, the Texas A&M Aggies won the championship over the Arkansas Razorbacks. In the seventh-ninth grade division, once again it was Texas A&M winning a tightly contested game over LSU, by a score of 7 to 6. Tonight will be the fifth and sixth grade championship, with Kansas facing Arkansas for the division title at Wil-O-Way Park at 6 p.m.
