Mosaic Choir is a co-curricular, auditioned group of over 100 students. Students do not need to be enrolled in a curricular choir to audition for Mosaic. Mosaic sings primarily world and gospel music. They were featured with the Chicago Sinfonietta in their annual Martin Luther King, Jr. concert this past year. They have performed at the Chicago Symphony Center, Wentz Hall, and at the House of Blues. Mosaic Ensemble is a 12-14 voice group made up of Mosaic members. Mosaic is under the direction of Mr. Seth Durbin and Ms. Alyx McCain.
Founded in 2009, the WVHS World Beat offers percussionists and interested non‐percussionists the opportunity to study and perform percussion music from around the world. World Beat may cover a variety of styles and genres from a wide range of cultures and countries. Students may have the opportunity to study music from Brazil, Cuba, Argentina, Polynesia, Indonesia, Caribbean, West Africa, Central Africa, Japan, China, and folk music from Europe and the Americas.
World Beat students have the option/opportunity to enroll in group lessons on steelpan. Students enrolled in steelpan lessons will learn about the steel pan in an ensemble setting, and perform as members of World Beat on the Schlagzeugfest Concert, Spring Percussion Concert, and Mosaic Concert.
