Loaves & Fishes Community Services has taken a page from pop culture with it’s first Naperville Chef Showdown. A competitive cooking contest that pits executive chefs from two popular Naperville restaurants, Chef Eddie Sweeney from Catch 35 and Chef Danny Gil from Hugo’s Frog Bar & Fish House. The twist? The contest was held at the food pantry. Temporary stadium kitchens were provided by My Chef Catering.
Each team created an unique three-course dinner using pre-disclosed ingredients. In tying in with the Loaves & Fishes name, one course featured fish and another, a loaf. A mystery ingredient was introduced during the evening.
Celebrity sous chefs Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico, Julie Chirico, Nicki Anderson, and Joe Vozar assisted the chefs. Dishes were voted upon by a panel of select judges including Christine Jeffries, President of Naperville Development Partnership; Jim Ebel, co-founder of Two Brothers Brewing Company; Mark Walter, Owner & Executive Chef at My Chef; and Naperville eighth grader Henry Weiser, a Top Chef Jr. finalist.
Ray Kinney from Blooming Color and host of Dine Around Naperville emceed the evening.
