North Central College hosting the Dr. Keeler Track and Field meet in what is the second to last chance to best some times and get ready for Nationals.
And let’s begin with the javelin… and to sophomore Liam Doran… who, just last week was crowned CCIW champ in this event with a 56.41 mark.
Here he comes down the runway on the back fields behind Res-Rec… and he launches the javelin 54.9 meters… which is roughly 180 feet… he winds up throwing 56.24… good for 4th on the day.
Back inside the stadium, and on to the track. Chris Buechner one of three current Cardinals in the 1500… along with recently graduated Zach Hird. And they’re off!
Roughly four laps around the track… and here’s the field at the quarter mark, with a pair of Cardinals near the front.
Michael Anderson and Gabe Pommier joining Buechner in the race and midway through, Anderson is pressing the front of the pack.
Down the final stretch and YSU’s Sean Peterson is the winner, Buechner finishes fourth with a 3:53 time, with Anderson claiming fifth, crossing just a second later. Legendary coach, Al Carius there at the line to greet his runners.
Back to a field event and check out Javon Kunkel… the dude is waiting for the second heat and provides a helping hand in the meantime.
But here he is flying down the run way… and the junior leaps a whopping 6.43 meters… that’s good for 7th overall in the meet.
Moving to the 110 meter hurdles, and the third of four heats featuring North Central’s Kyle Hilton. And the senior, running in lane 7, crosses 6th in his heat… 16th overall with a 15. 69 mark.
Taking away the hurdles and we’ll take a full trip around the track in the 400… and in heat 6 of 8, Gavin Cerknek edges out Maceo Findlay by point one-four seconds to finish 11th and 12th overall.
In heat 7, Michael Stanley is the second best finisher… and he’s enjoying his 49.11 time. And that mark is good for 8th in the field.
In the top race, we get multi-national title winning sprinter, Peyton Piron. And the senior doesn’t disappoint. He blows away the field with a sub-48 second time… 47-85 to be precise. That’s the best mark in the meet.
Back to the track and we’ll get to the high flyers down the runway with Avante Rivers in the 100 meter dash. The freshman in the 7th of 9 heats… he runs a blistering time in 10.99, a PR… third best in the heat…. 14th best time in the field.
A bit of a different beast, here’s head 8 of 10 of the 800 meter run… two full sprints around the track. And North Central’s Cameron Benes crosses in 1:53:91… good for 19th in the field
Meanwhile, teammate Brendon Sebastian is in the next heat… and the sophomore coming in 4th… 13th overall with a time of 1:52:93
Putting the hurdles back on the track and we’ll line up for another four heats… skipping to heat three, which has Erik Musgrave. The junior busting it down the straight-away… clocks in a with a 55:32 time… 3rd in his heat, 11th overall.
After a couple of scratches in the 200 meter, the North Central Cardinals final race of the night… the steeplechase!
In heat one, Joshua Johnson finishes with a 10:04 time… Nebil Mohammed comes across in 10:12, while Tanner McQuality ends up with a 10:19 mark… all finishing within 7 places of one another with Johnson 49th
In the second heat, Zach Michael carries the NCC torch… and the junior finishes with a 9:49 time… good for 40th. Up next, the Gregory Invitational before Nationals!
