Highlights from the North Central College Men’s Tennis match vs. Millikin inside the Vaughn Tennis Center in Aurora.

Doubles Play

Victor Krueger and the North Central Men’s Tennis team is riding high, winning three straight conference match-ups… including a narrow victory against Carthage. Ryan Jump has his team playing very well, thanks to the help of freshman Andy Hinch, who’s a two time CCIw player of the week award winner.

Let’s open with Hinch and Krueger at the number one doubles spot. They’re taking on Millikin’s Jacob Palley and Colin Sandgren. And Hinch, pushing the issue at the net, finishes off the early point.

Hinch and Krueger recently taking over the top double spot and having a ton of success… going 5-3 so far. And once again, the Cardinals mastering the play around the net… with Krueger finishing it off with a over head smash into the tarp… Cardinals starting hot.

It’s not all butterflies and rainbows though… Millikin coming back and nabbing a point after a short rally. Palley smokes one that nips that back end line to keep the Big Blue in it.

But with the match on the line, Hinch serving… and it’s too hot to handle. Cardinals draw first blood, winning 8-6. An important win as the Cards look to upset the Big Blue.

To number 2 doubles, and it’s Tyler-squared! Tyler Haizel and Tyler Bussel taking on Greg Schwoeppe and Logan Bennett. And early on, it’s the Tylers fist pumping after the point.

However, the Big Blue duo proving to be a force in this one with an array of shots… and Millikin takes the win, 8-6.

Finally, to number 3 doubles, which has North Central’s Justin Howes and Lucas Pindak squaring off with Millikin’s Holden Owens and Nick Laramee. And the Cardinals claim a huge win, going into singles play up 2-1.

Singles play

Okay… let’s go to singles… and we’ll go in reverse order, starting with Pindak squaring off with Laramee at #6 singles… and the Cardinal lets out a roar after winning 7-5, 6-4.

Next up… Howes against Owens… and in this back and forth affair, Owens wins the first set, 6-1 before the Cardinal scraps out a second set win, 7-6… but in the third, Owens claims it 6-4.

Great play here in #4 singles with Hinch facing off with Bennet… and in the first set, Bennett dominating and winning 7-5.

However, Hinch staying mentally strong and focused on trying to grab another win for North Central… and that fortitude pays off with Hinch taking the second set by storm, winning 6-0.

And the freshman continuing that momentum into the third set, by once again blowing out his opponent… as he bounces back from a first set loss to win the third, 6-0… two wins on the day for Hinch.

Up next, the first of the two Tylers, as Haizel does battle with Schwoeppe… and it’s the Millikin Big Blue with the win – 6-3, 6-3.

#2 singles now and Bussel holding court against Sandgren… and the senior rockin… takes care of business in short order, winning 6-0, 6-1.

Finally we get to #1 singles and a really fun match to watch between Palley and Krueger… and the North Central senior making his opponent WORK… Krueger takes the first set 7-6

In the second set, Krueger is up 5-3 and looking to lock it up and nail down a big win for North Central.

And he does it! And he almost runs off the court! Krueger wins in straight sets, and the Cardinals crush the BigBlue 6-3… winning a fourth straight conference match.
