Edward-Elmhurst Health is saluting former military members seeking their care. They recognize and honor their courage, sacrifice and commitment to our country with its Veteran Recognition Program. When registering, patients can state if they have served in the military and if so can choose to take part in this program. For those who participate, a volunteer – often times also a fellow veteran – will bring them some special items, including a Thank You card, American Flag pin, and door hanger so that everyone who comes to their rooms will know the patient inside is a veteran and should be thanked for their service.
The Veteran Recognition Program began in 2016, is modeled after a similar Veterans Affairs hospice program called “We Honor Veterans,” and is available for all former military members receiving care across all departments. So far, Edward-Elmhurst has recognized more than 2,500 patient veterans, in addition to the 150 veteran volunteer and staff, which they recognize each year with a special breakfast.
