Central Park’s band shell dedication back in 2003 will certainly strike a chord with fans and members of the Naperville Municipal Band.
The city had spent more than $2-million to demolish the existing Koerner Band Shell, named after former director, Elmer Koerner. Built in 1966, the band would perform a 10-concert series each summer there but the venue had been failing and the city agreed to have a new shell built in its place.
After a major makeover, the municipal band performed a dedication concert for the new “Central Park Concert Center” in April 2003. The facility includes rehearsal space, a music library, storage, dressing rooms, and moveable benches for flexible seating, all in the name of helping the Naperville Municipal Band play on for years to come.
