begins web streaming Community television for all

“We can’t get Channel 17,” said one disappointed parent. “We were so excited you put the Waubonsie band on, but unfortunately we can’t get NCTV from our house.”

These words, echoed frequently from people outside the NCTV17 viewing area will be heard no longer. Naperville Community Television, Channel 17 (NCTV17) has partnered with ZEZAN Data Center to stream NCTV17 programs on their website, creating virtually limitless viewing opportunities. As of March 21st, through ZEZAN IP broadcasting services, NCTV17 programming can be viewed live on the internet simultaneous to the broadcast on Channel 17. NCTV17 is one of the first public access stations in the country to offer live web streaming of its channel.

Celebrating its 20 th Anniversary in 2007, NCTV17 continues to expand on its mission to educate, inform, preserve, entertain, assist, and celebrate one another through diverse programming that reflects the character and spirit of the Naperville community.

“We can’t think of a better way to celebrate our milestone anniversary than to expand the viewing opportunities,” said NCTV17 Executive Director Liz Spencer. “We are very pleased to be able to bring our programming to everyone through our website streaming.”

NCTV17 is bringing its award-winning television programs to a much larger, more diverse audience through this partnership with ZEZAN Data Center. As NCTV17 programs are being broadcast at the NCTV17 studio, the signal is sent to a ZEZAN IP broadcasting server located at ZEZAN Data Center in Naperville. ZEZAN then encodes the signal to an IP broadcasting compression standard and sends it over the internet to the NCTV17 website where the video is decoded and broadcast as live streaming. The video is then played for online viewers using standard Real Player for multiple broadband speeds.

broadband internet connections are helping local audiences to watch TV programming of choice from anywhere at any time and we are proud to be associated with the IP broadcasting initiative of NCTV17,” added Siddiqi.

Naperville Community Television has established itself as a leader in community television. With programming that represents a broad range of community topics, NCTV17 has extended itself deep into the community. NCTV17 has also received accolades for its award-winning documentary productions. This unique capability is preserving Naperville area history in television documentary art form. Recent projects include “The Naperville Riverwalk: The First 25 Years” and the first full length television feature on Naperville’s founder Joseph Naper. In addition, for the first time ever, NCTV17 will be providing live coverage of the consolidated election on April 17 th.
