The Cardinal Report
The spring athletics season comes to a close after fine showings from both the men's and women's outdoor track and field teams at Division III Nationals. The two teams combine for 12 All-America certificates in Delaware, Ohio. Both squads join us to break down the action.
After a historic season, the North Central football team is back on the field for spring practices. Head coach John Thorne lets us in on the early returns on the team's quest for a ninth straight CCIW crown. NCC SID Clark Teuscher also updates us on softball, baseball and men's volleyball.
Softball wins a regional for the first time since 2001 and now prepares for Division III's first-ever super regional round. The team previews the best-of-three series against St. Thomas (Minnesota). Lacrosse recaps another successful campaign, as well.
The Red Zone
A touchdown on Mount Union's final drive gives the Purple Raiders a narrow 41-40 playoff victory over North Central. Head coach John Thorne, quarterback Spencer Stanek and safety Shane Dierking reflect on the most successful season in school history.
For the first time in program history, North Central is playing in the national semifinals. But to move on to the Stagg Bowl, the Cards will have to down their hardest opponent to date -- defending champs, Mount Union.
UW-Platteville's high-powered offense is no problem for NCC in its 54-24 second round playoff victory. Head coach John Thorne, along with seniors Trey Hartema and Ryan Szudarski, preview NCC's road trip to Bethel University for the national quarterfinals.
