North Central College and the Naperville Riverwalk Commission have partnered up with the Riverwalk Foundation, the Park District and the city on a project that will connect downtown with the College.
Landscaping a path between Benedetti Stadium and Fredenhagen park, adding two brick pillars, titled with the words “North Central College” and eventually connecting the gateway to the Sesquicentennial Walkway are all part of the Riverwalk Gateway, which has already started taking shape this summer.
The purpose of the gateway is to beautify entrance to the college and to downtown while making it easily accessible for community events.
The public is invited to volunteer helping build the project.
Assistant Vice President for Business Operations at North Central College, Mike Hudson, hopes many will come out and be a part of construction.
“People being able to put their own name on a brick, and be involved with the project in some form or fashion is exciting for everybody,” said, Hudson.
The goal is to be done with the project by September, at the start of North Central’s school year.
