Just after midnight more than 700 hundred people took off from nearby Fermilab for the annual Chase the Moon bike ride.
Participants skipped a good nights sleep to raise money for The Conservation Foundation to spread awareness and preserve open space in natural areas.
Using flashlights and glow sticks, the riders navigated their way twenty miles through the woods and prairies of Fermilab.
Due to changing regulations at Fermilab, this is the last year for the event.
“I’m glad The Conservation Foundation is gonna continue going on even though we are loosing Chase the Moon and I hope everyone continues to support them because they do great work,” said David Brummel, Mayor of Warrenville.
The event has raised more than one hundred thousand dollars for The Conservation Foundation over the past seven years.
