All summer long, brewers at Two Brothers are busy making beers only brewed once before. Drinks like Brown Fox Session Ale and Old 1713 Scotch Ale haven’t been served in years, but they’re just two of the 15 recipes being dusted off for Two Brothers Brewery’s “15 Beer for 15 Years” project.
“We do a lot of one off beers where we do it one time and we never do it again,” said Jason. “I was thinking that this would be a good thing to bring back some of those favorites that people always request and beers that maybe people didn’t even know about because we’re brewing beers now that we produced 15 years ago and if you weren’t watching out beer, you didn’t know we made it.”
A new brew comes out about once a week and is selling as fast as it’s being made. The project is almost halfway done, but there are still plenty of favorites to look forward to.
“I’m going to let the cat out of the bag right here and let you know that Pahoehoe, which is our coconut beer and probably the most requested beer is going to be back in just a couple of weeks,” said Jason. “Oh Brother, which is a triple that everybody wants, will be out in sometime September. Lots of cool stuff to look forward to and a couple of surprises in there I’m not going to tell you about.”
All beers can be found at the Two Brothers Taphouse, Two Brothers Roundhouse, and many local liquor stores, a first for many of the beers.
“A lot of these beers we were brewing before we even had our own bottling line,” said Jason. “So this is the first time ever in bottle.”
The Ebels never thought the brewery would be quite this big when they opened it on an extremely small budget 15 years ago.
“We had a business plan that said we would hit 30,000 barrels forever, and we’re there already,” said Jason.
The first year they made 164 barrels of beer, which is about 320 kegs. They are now producing 200 barrels a day, have 400 employees and are still 100% family owned.
Two Brothers plans to release their last anniversary beer sometime in September.
