Shared Services Savings:
This morning DuPage County and the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County outlined over $275,000 in taxpayer savings created through shared services. At a press conference held by DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin and Forest Preserve President Joe Cantore, officials highlighted some of the shared services that have helped save funds, like GIS services, shared facilities and software licensing. Around $200,000 will be saved annually through this consolidation.
Naperville To Be Welcoming City:
At last night’s City Council meeting, the group took steps to declare Naperville as a welcoming city. Councilwoman Becky Anderson directed staff to write up a resolution declaring that Naperville is welcoming to everyone regardless of religion, race or sexual orientation. The proposed resolution, which was backed by many council members, would not be considered a legally binding ordinance, but more of a statement to say the city serves everyone equally.
Girl Rising Event:
Today is International Women’s Day, so it’s fitting that tonight Anderson’s Bookshop is hosting a special presentation and reading of Girl Rising at Hollywood Palms. The 2013 documentary focuses on how girls throughout the world can benefit from education and empowerment. From that sprang a companion book, which will be shared tonight, along with the movie. Kayce Freed Jennings, a senior producer on the film and Sokha Chen, one of the girls featured will be on hand to speak and answer questions. The event starts at 7pm, and tickets are available on Anderson’s website. http://www.andersonsbookshop.com/event/girl-rising
North Heads to Sectional Final:
The third time was the charm for Naperville North boys basketball. After two heartbreaking losses to Wheaton Warrenville South this season, the Huskies finally defeated the top seeded Tigers in the sectional semi finals. 16 points from senior Mitch Lewis led the Huskies to a 40-35 victory. Naperville North moves on to its first sectional final since 2003, where they await the winner from the match-up of Hinsdale South and Wheaton North.
