COMMUNITY EDUCATION
One of the most significant elements of the NCTV17 mission is education. As the community’s television station, NCTV17 is proud to contribute to both the high school and college academic experience, as well as highlight some of the many outstanding programs found at each level. NCTV17 is an active participant and deeply committed to education in the community.
INTERNSHIPS
NCTV17 is deeply committed to educating the next generation of broadcast professionals. As part of that commitment, year-round internships are offered at both the high school and college level. At both levels, a Naperville Community Television internship is offered in three diverse tracks: news, sports, or general television production. As importantly, interns gain hands-on experience. No prior experience is necessary but interns must have a good attitude and possess an interest in television. High school students must show maturity and commit 5-10 hours per week. College students will expand on their skill sets and be given “real world” experience. College interns must commit 10-20 hours per week or more, as they prepare for an entry level job in the television industry. NCTV17 interns of the past few years have gone on to pursue careers in television production, broadcast journalism, or communication at larger organizations including NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN and Fox. NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE
In 2006, Naperville Community Television and North Central College formalized their partnership with NCTV17 Executive Director Liz Spencer as Adjunct Faculty. Since that time, the relationship has developed further, resulting in educational opportunities and programming that benefits the entire community.

Spencer serves as Adjunct Faculty in the Speech Communications department expanding the TV/video/broadcasting curriculum. Spencer teaches the classroom portion on the North Central College campus; the students come to the NCTV17 studio for their production experience.

NCTV17 and North Central College also partner to bring NCC sports to the community through the programs “The Red Zone” featuring North Central College football and “The Cardinal Report” highlighting many other NCC athletic programs. The popular programs air on Channel 17 and are placed on both the NCTV17 website and the NCC website. The programs present highlights and also give student athletes a chance to give insight into their games and meets.

Additionally, NCTV17 often features events and stories of note from the NCC campus in the weekly news show “Naperville News 17.” The show has included stories such as the building of the Residential/Recreation Center, students moving in for the year, the student-run store, and numerous performances from the Wentz concert hall.

NAPERVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICTS 203 AND 204
NCTV17 and Naperville School Districts 203 and Indian Prairie School District 204 have enjoyed a long and rewarding partnership. NCTV17 helps keep the community informed and connected to both school districts through a variety of programs including: broadcast of their School Board meetings, production of numerous recognition events, and many stories featuring students and faculty which appear in the weekly program “Naperville News 17.” NCTV17 showcases both the boys and girls varsity sports from all the local high schools through their weekly highlight show, “Naperville Sports Weekly.” NCTV17 also has a partnership with Naperville North High School for an enriched media class where students gain hands-on experience in producing their own TV show, “Naperville On Air.”
