Community Education
One of the most significant elements of the NCTV17 mission is education. From a thriving internship program to keeping the community informed about the area’s school systems, NCTV17 is an active participant and deeply committed to education in the community. NCTV17’s internship program includes both high school and college interns. Some of the other educational efforts include NCTV17’s partnership with Naperville School District 203 for an enriched media class, NCTV17’s broadcast of School Board meetings, and many stories featuring students and faculty in the weekly program “Naperville News 17.” Additionally, Executive Director Liz Spencer serves as Adjunct Faculty at North Central College where she has expanded their TV/video/broadcasting curriculum.
NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE
In 2006, Naperville Community Television and North Central College formalized their partnership with NCTV17 Executive Director Liz Spencer as Adjunct Faculty. Since that time, the relationship has developed further, resulting in educational opportunities and programming that benefits the entire community.

Spencer serves as Adjunct Faculty in the Speech Communications department expanding the TV/video/broadcasting curriculum. Spencer teaches the classroom portion on the North Central College campus; the students come to the NCTV17 studio for their production experience. Students enrolled in the broadcast track gain both a comprehensive liberal arts education and hands-on training from the NCTV17 studios. Many of the students gain additional experience through NCTV17 productions such as election coverage; 22 North Central College students were part of one live election night program. Some continue as NCTV17 interns gaining even more valuable experience in the industry. Following this, several have gone on to careers in communication/video production/or television at large venues such as CNN.

NCTV17 and North Central College also partner to bring NCC sports to the community through the programs “The Red Zone” featuring North Central College football and “The Cardinal Report” highlighting many other NCC athletic programs. The popular programs air on Channel 17 and are placed on both the NCTV17 website and the NCC website. The programs present highlights and also give student athletes a chance to give insight into their games and meets.

Additionally, NCTV17 often features events and stories of note from the NCC campus in the weekly news show “Naperville News 17.” The show has included stories such as the new Residential/Recreation Center, students moving in for the year, the student-run store, and numerous performances from the Wentz concert hall.

As the community’s television station, NCTV17 is proud to contribute to the North Central College academic experience, as well as highlight some of the many outstanding programs found there. For additional information on North Central College, visit www.northcentralcollege.edu
