As a cooperative effort of Wheaton Park District, Kiwanis Club of Wheaton, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association, and Forest Preserve District DuPage County, a new garden/playground is being developed at Danada South Park. 20% of our population has some form of disability/learning challenge. Some may be physical limitations that are plain to see, while others are less apparent such as learning disabilities. In an effort to better meet the needs of ALL children and adults, an accessible playground, garden, and multi-purpose field is being built in Danada South Park. This facility will feature fully accessible playgrounds, a fragrance garden with raised plant beds, a sound garden, water play area, and accessible multi-purpose field. Immerse yourself in a journey through your senses at the Sensory Garden Playground!

Our tutors are able to design the proper program for each student based on the student’s particular needs. The Reading Tree also offers review courses and individual tutoring for the ACT exam. Our individual ACT tutoring is tailored to the specific needs of the student. The Reading Tree will be celebrating its 37th anniversary in 2013.

The Nook features a unique mix of gourmet coffees, Petersen’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream, nostalgic candy, popcorn, cards, jewelry and now a wide selection of yarns and notions. The “Book Nook” became “The Nook” in 2007, when new owner, Kitty Murphy renovated it to make it more of a destination spot for kids and families. The new 18’ Wall-O-Candy is loaded with hard-to-find nostalgic candies, and the new brands children love! In 2012, Kitty Murphy partnered with Tina Baker. Kitty and Tina did more updating & put together a beautiful, affordable selection of yarn (some of which is from Europe) and supplies for knitting and crocheting. We now offer knitting/crocheting classes -- beginner to advanced level. So, if you are nearby, stop in for an ice cream, coffee, espresso, some great candy and maybe play a board game!
