Naperville North Huskies Football Win State Championship

Saturday night the Naperville North Huskies played in Champaign, Il for the class 8A IHSA state championship; Sunday morning they came home winners.

The Huskie football team worked hard all year in order to win the State Champion game. Practices started in the summer and continued until late November. With one loss, and outstanding players, the Huskies defeated Glenbard North panthers, 46-19.

The team received massive amounts of support from the community. Over 6 different busses of fans were taken down to Champaign to cheer on the team. Parents, students and alumni were very proud to wear their orange and blue that night.

Before heading to the State game, Naperville North had a pep assembly to support their players and to wish them good luck. After the game, the team received a huge welcoming to celebrate their win. Then, Tuesday at school, the players, again, received recognition for their hard work, dedication, and State title.

At the assembly, Mayor George Pradel awarded the Huskie football team with a sign that read “2007 State Champions Illinois Class 8A Football” to hang up at the school.

Since their freshman year, senior players have been chanting “State ’08,” and have been looking forward to this night for four years.

“It’s a great bunch of guys and I’m really proud of them…it’s a dream come true. And for the seniors, it’s a great way to go out,” senior Jordan Tassio said.

This is the second State title the Naperville North football team has received and they plan to continue to work hard next season.
