Ready, Set, Hold On!
Triathlon Sees Delay from Weather
At 6:00am Sunday morning about 2,000 competitors were ready to take the waves and street for the Annual Women’s Triathlon.
But they had to wait a bit.
The athletes were delayed for a one-hour lightning warning before navigating the 0.47-mile swim at Centennial Beach, a 13.8-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run course. The event, in its 11th year, raised money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
The contest is part of a national series women only triathlon and is the first part of a four city stop.
According to the US Women’s triathlon series website, the event is more than just a race, each series event provides a supportive environment for women of all ages and athletic abilities coupled with a weekend of fun.
