2nd Annual Kite Festival Kicks off Summer
Families and friends of all ages enjoyed new features and old favorites at the Naperville Park District’s 2nd annual Frontier Kite Fly Festival this past weekend.
The event brought back the popular NASA Fun Area, courtesy of Experience Saturn of Naperville/North Aurora. Visitors could climb aboard an inflatable rocket ship, have an out of this world time experiencing G-force, and try out a parachute simulator.
This year this festival also brought back penny carnival games for prizes, as well as the candy drop.
New to this year was the learn-to-fly field – a hands-on area where attendees can try out flying tricks of their own, courtesy of Chicago Kite. Guests were also introduced to the Rokkaku – a traditional Japanese fighting kite – and be treated to a “Rok” battle.
“Last year’s response to our inaugural two-day event was terrific, and we are very excited to be bringing back the Kite Festival with even more kite-related fun,” said Erin McNulty, Corporate Relations Manager. “It’s a great opportunity for families with children of all ages to come out and marvel at the kites and get involved in all the activities that are planned.”
Kite stunts were performed by Chicago Kite, Sparling Kite Entertainment, Chromatic Kites, and Illinois Kite Enthusiasts.
The free event was an early kick off to the Summer season in Naperville and lasted from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7th and Sunday, June 8th at Frontier Park at 3380 Cedar Glade Drive in South Naperville.
The Frontier Kite Fly Festival was supported by the Naperville Convention and Visitors Bureau, Chicago Kite, SCORE Educational Centers, and 959 The River.
