City Council Works Hard to get Things Done
Development, Parking Hot Topics at Bi-monthly Meeting

There is a lot to be done by summer and city council members wasted no time at their April 4th meeting.

Council’s agenda included items such as the Water Street redevelopment and the Washington corridor study. City council started the meeting off by approving a $10,000 fund to send lobbyist down to Springfield.  These lobbyist will represent the city’s concerns for Canadian’s National’s proposed acquisition of the Eastern Joliet to Council tabled a new plan to adopt a new water meter system that could potentially save money in the long run.  The current water meter systems have been costly because of their battery life.  A typical battery life for a water meter should last up to 15 years, but the ones the city currently only about seven.

Next council meeting there will be a cost analysis to see how much the city would save by converting to a new water meter system.

Parking came up again at the meeting, but this time it was about additional parking at the Islamic Center of Naperville located at 2844 West Ogden Avenue.  Traffic gets very crazy at the end of their services and they asked to get more parking.  Councilman Furstenau said, “This is something these folks should not worry about and we need to get moving with building more parking.”

Council motioned to table this item and will come back to it on July 15, 2008.

The Naperville police department feels restricted on how many officers they can have and asked council to change it.  The Police Department wants to train new officers before another leaves.  Council asked for more language before they make a decision.

The next City Council meeting is Tuesday, April 15th at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
